You Hold the Keys
Vicki Klinger

I imagine, in the beginning,
You stood before His throne.
And listened while He told you
Of your mission and your home.
I suppose you were frightened
Of the journey that lay ahead,
Of the trials and tribulations
And, to Him you may have said,
“I’m frightened, Dear Father,
I want to return to thee.
How can I go down into the world
Where my agency is free?
What if I make wrong choices?
The path I do not know.”
And I imagine that He smiled and said
In a voice so sweet and low,
“Dear Daughter, how I love you.
I’ll not leave you all alone.
I’ll only be a prayer away.
Anytime you can call home.
I’ll send you down to loving parents
And give you leaders whom you’ll love.
They’ll show you the way that you must go
So you can return above.”
So with your hand planted firmly in His
You entered this world through birth.
And as He promised, loving parents were there.
Who taught you of your worth.
They taught you that you were a child of God
And Him you must obey.
They guided and directed you
Through all your work and play.
And as you grew, the leaders came
With testimonies so strong,
They prayed, they taught, they loved,
They hoped, that you would not go wrong.
“One step at a time,” they’d always say,
“Is how you must progress.
And with each step, you’ll earn a key
To the door of happiness.”
You’ve passed through many doors
On your journey from there to here
Many doors lay before you
But you can face them without fear.
For your Father in His wisdom
Has given you the key
The key to your progression
Is your desire to come unto Me.
So many steps still lay before you
As you journey on your way,
But with your hand firmly in His
You can almost hear Him say,
“My Daughter, how I love you
I’m so proud of you this day
For you have chosen righteous paths
And you are on your way.
Hold tight the keys I’ve given you.
The keys to your life story
And I promise if you will use them but wisely,
You’ll be an heir to Celestial glory.”
