Value Experiences and Value Projects
Value Experience
1
-
Talks from General Conference about FAITH
-
Prayer Rock
- Have the girls make their own prayer rock using river stones and craft
paints.
-
Prayer Bear - Have the girls make their
own prayer bear. Have the leaders bring sewing machines and scrap
material for the project, as well as notions like buttons, yarn, embroidery
thread and fiberfill.
-
Prayer Mat - Have the girls make their
own prayer mat using carpet samples (very cheap at the carpet or flooring
store), craft paint and stencils. The girls can make their own stencils
using a paper grocery bag and craft knife or scissors, or use pre-made
ones that the leaders or the girls have from home. Stencil a saying
like, "Did you think to pray?" or have two circles next to eachother and
have underneath, "Every knee shall bow" or "place knees here". For
this particular value experience, you could also have the girls place 42
squares around the outside edge of the carpet, and check each one off with
permanent marker as she says her morning and evening prayers.

Value
Experience 2
-
File Box - Have
the girls decorate an index card box to hold cards from each Value's experiences.
The craft stores have wooden boxes that would be easier to decorate than
the plastic kind. I have also seen these wood boxes at the Dollar
Store. You can also include cards in the differeint value colors for the
girls to use with each goal that needs them. To decorate, you can
tole paint, decoupage (using pictures cut from old Ensigns and New Eras),
bead, stain or use other methods to decorate the boxes.
-
For this Value Experience, have the girls write
down what responses they receive from their discussions with their mothers,
grandmothers, aunts, leaders, etc. They can keep the cards in the
box for future use. At the end of their YW years, they will have
a box that will hold many precious things for them as well as a family
history and heritage.
-
Proclamation Painting - Print or purchace
copies of the Proclamation of the Family for each girl. Bring in
watercolors, and have the young women highlight the passages relating to
roles of mothers and women in their favorite colors. If you print
them yourself, you can do so on white cardstock, and it should hold the
paint pretty well. To get a soft look, paint the area with water
first, then apply color. For a brighter look, use the colors on dry
paper.
-
If you don't want to use paint, you could also
use pastels, colored pencils, scrapbooking markers, etc.
-
Frame the finished pieces for the YW to hang
in their rooms.
