"Stand
for Truth and Righteousness" Note Board
This was a Personal Progress activity,
and was used for the girls to pass off the following goals:
With calendar:
BH1 Integrity #2, BH2 Integrity
#3, MM1 Integrity #2, MM2 Integrity # 6
Without
calendar:
BH1 Integrity #3, BH1 Integrity
#4, MM1 Integrity #1
Not
shown:
Value color discs that have a hole
in the top. These hang on the hook on the left side to help the young
woman remember which value we are studying and working on each month.
Class calendar or Ward calendar that
the young woman can hang with the clothespin. For the calendar goals,
I gave the girls 14 heart stickers to keep track of their two week goals.
I had them bring in their calendars to go over their experiences and to
sign off the goal.
Materials
needed for each board:
-
1- 12" L 1"x4" pine board. I picked
up a large board at Eagle Hardware, and they cut it for me for free.
-
1 - 3/4" scew-in hook
-
1 - spring clothespin
-
paint
-
Modge-Podge
-
permanent marker
-
scissors
-
paint brushes
-
Old Ensign magazines
-
Value color discs (can be made of felt,
cardboard or wood - it's up to you)
-
Super glue or wood screw
-
picture hanger or craft wire and drill
To
make:
-
Sand the rough edges of the board and
clean with a damp rag.
-
Paint (on one side) base coat as desired.
-
Cut out any pictures from the Ensign
that you feel exemplifies the motto, "Stand for Truth and Righteousness"
or the value Integrity.
-
When paint is dry, use permanent marker
to ink in the words "Stand for Truth and Righteousness". We made
templates on the computer, but you could also bring in stencils or find
a talented person who knows calligraphy to come in and help.
-
Following directions on the bottle of
Modge-Podge (or other decoupage medium), apply the pictures you have cut
out. The decoupage medium will seal the wood.
-
Apply the wall hanger to the back of
the board as soon as it dries, or drill holes in the upper corners of the
board to thread your craft wire through. Twist wire to secure.
-
Screw in the hook in desired location.
-
Apply the clothespin (we painted ours
first) with superglue, or use a wood screw to secure it to the board.
VOILA!
Our girls were very proud of their
creations!
