ROSIE: Welcome to the Rosie O Masters Talk Show. Today we have a special guest planned. He is the prophet Joshua. But before we bring him out we would like to pause for a quick word from an advertising sponsor
MORMON AD # 1
ROSIE: Thank you for staying with us. As our guest comes out from the dressing room, let me tell you something about him. The Prophet Joshua grew up in Egypt. He was from one of the 12 tribes of Israel called Ephraim. He was born about 1,200 years before the birth of Jesus Christ and was born about 3,000 before our studio audience the children of the Crescent 18th Primary were born. When Moses led the people of Israel out of Egypt, Joshua was there with him. He was his helper. The people of Israel lived in the deserts then for about 40 years until Moses was no longer the prophet and Joshua became the leader and prophet.
Welcome Joshua. (shake hands and seat) You have an interesting history. Can you tell me, What did you eat living out in the desert those 40 years?
JOSHUA: Well, we were concerned about this at first. You see there were thousands and thousands of people in our group. It’s hard to find enough food for that many people in a desert. (pull out lizard, snake… from clothes) But, do you know what?
We trusted in God and each morning (except Sunday) the ground would be covered with a white food called Manna – it tasted something like honey biscuits. (We’d take our baskets out and pick it up) Each night God sent a flock of small birds called quail, which we would catch and eat. We ate like this for 40 years. Yes, I guess I probably ate about12,000 meals of manna.
Do you know what is amazing though? The adults who had lived in Egypt still complained a lot and sometimes said they were better off back in Egypt when they were slaves. They did not always want to follow the prophet Moses.
This is why we were in the desert soooo long. All these rebellious adults died in the desert except the prophet Moses, Caleb and myself. When we got to the edge of the desert to a place called Canaan, Moses went up a mountain and was taken to God. I became the next prophet. I felt very humble because I wanted to be a good prophet and help the people want to love and serve their Heavenly Father.
ROSIE: This might be a good time to pause for another advertising word from a sponsor
MORMON AD #2
ROSIE:
Welcome back and I’d like to welcome a wonderful
kids choir. I hear you traveled all the way here from Sandy Utah.
Is that true? Well I am glad.
Now back to our special guest, The prophet Joshua who was born about 1.200 years before the Savior, Jesus Christ.
Now, Joshua the miracle of food falling from heaven (Manna) and opening a river are remarkable. But you know I heard of another one I was dying to ask you about.
Can you tell me about the city of Jericho? I have heard a song that goes something like …..Joshus fought the battle of Jerico… (rocky), I’ve always wondered what this was about.
JOSHUA: I would be glad to tell you. This is another example of when people obey the Lord they are helped.
Well, we had been wandering in the desert 40 years as you know and we finally reached the beautiful land promised to us by the Lord to be our home. We came to a town on a hill called Jericho. They locked the gates and put gaurds up all around. They did not want to share the land. There are a lot of wars in my part of the world and so I am used to battle, but I was a bit stumped about what to do. I prayed and as happens when I am sincere and listen I received an answer from the Lord.
I was told to organize my army, place the priests in front with the special carrier of the 10 commandments (this was called the Ark of the Covenant). I was told to have them march around the city once a day for 6 days – making no noise. On the 7th day the army with the priest in front were to march around the city walls 7 time with the priests blowing the horn. No one was to make any other sound at all. After the 7th time around they were to sound one long trumpet blast and then all the soldeirs were to shout loudly. And the walls of Jericho were to crumble and fall down.
The people obeyed exactly and you know what? The walls did fell down!
Can I have volunteers from your studio audience to demonstrate?
ACTION: Get 7 kids give a horn have them walk around the boxes, at end of 7the time (do do do… the horn ) and knock the blocks down.
ROSIE: Are you sure this really happened? I mean I can’t shout and blow a horn and have the walls fall down.
JOSHUA: You can if the Lord commands you to and he knocks the walls down for you. With God all things are possible.
ROSIE: Do you have any last words for this studio audience?
JOSHUA: Yes, Trust in the Lord. I know I chose who I will serve and as I say “Choose you this day whom ye will serve….as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”
Good Bye!
(WALK OUT )
ROSIE: How wonderful to learn about the prophet Joshua. Thank you for joining our show today. As our show ends the wonderful childrens choir will sing to our TV audience the chorus of Nephi’s Courage which reflects how Joshua acted in “I will go and do the things the Lord Commands”.
SONG: Chorus of "Nephi’s Courage"
Close: Rosie direct kids to close eye, back on bus, to airplane, to bus and the primary room. Open eyes and dressed as self again.
Handout of a game to play with their families
to remind them all of the Faith of Joshua and with obedience all things
are possible.
