I CAN BE LIKE THE PEOPLE IN THE SCRIPTURES

Materials:
For this sharing time, there are 6 examples I chose from the scriptures to represent Faith, Courage, Honesty, Forgiveness, Obedience and Humility.  For each person, I wrote out (in first person) part of their experience.  The children choose a door, and the excerpt is read.  The children then try to guess who the person is.  The person conducting the sharing time tells the rest of the story, and invites the children to share experiences in their lives that might be like what the people in the scriptures had to do.

To make:

I printed out six of the Grecian borders (on cardstock) with the representation on the front and cut them out. I then cut out the top, bottom and right side of the "door", scoring the left side slightly to make it fold easily.

Next, I printed out the faces of the people to fit the inside of the doorway.

Glue the door frame to the paper that the face is printed on and trim.

We used tacks to put the doors up, but it would also look great pasted to a piece of black posterboard or you can tape them to the blackboard.

The Scenarios:

Nephi: (FORGIVENESS)

My brothers were mean to me.  They would say bad things about me and even beat me up!  I always forgave them, and tried to help them be better people.

Esther: (COURAGE)

I knew that someone was going to do something VERY wrong.  I knew I had to tell the authorities, but doing so might have gotten me into trouble.  I was scared.  I told anyway, and many lives were saved because of my courage!

Noah: (OBEDIENCE)

I was asked to something that sounded silly to a lot of people.  They made fun of me and called me names.  I went ahead and did it anyway, and am I glad!  Because I did what I was told, I was able to save my family!

Brother of Jared: (FAITH)

I needed to find out a solution to a big problem I had.  I prayed and prayed for an answer.  The answer to my prayer was that I needed to come up with an idea.  I thought and thought, and knew that I could come up with an answer with the Lord's help.  Because of my faith, my family was blessed.

Job: (HUMILITY)

I was very rich, and then I lost everything.  My house, all of my things, and my family. I never once blamed the Lord or anyone else for my problems, even when I got very, very sick. But I knew that the Lord would take care of me. I knew He loved me.

Adam: (HONESTY)

I did something I knew I shouldn't have done.  I knew what would happen if my father found out.  I would have been in a lot of trouble. I could have lied, but when my father asked me about it, I told him the truth.
