Are You the Woman I Think You Are?
From the YW
List
Here is the outline... As I said, we will have a panel of women from the stake to answer pre-prepared questions on the given topics. We asked the YW to each bring 2 questions, then we will put them in a jar and pull them out so no one will know who asked what, in case it might be embarrassing to some of the girls. We also asked the leaders to come with questions, in case there aren't enough. We will serve lemonade and bar cookies afterwards. Are You the Woman I Think You Are? Not long ago I visited a ward on the exquisite Oregon coast. At the conclusion of sacrament meeting I was a little surprised when a woman approached me and asked, "Are you the woman I think you are?" Her question referred to my identity, but it is one that has haunted me. Am I the woman I think I am, the woman I want to be? More importantly, am I the woman the Savior needs me to be? FAITH VALUE EXPERIENCES #2 Discover the principles of faith taught by the mothers of Helaman's stripling warriors (Alma 56:45-48) 45. And now I say unto you, my beloved brother Moroni, that never had I seen so great courage, nay, not amongst all the Nephites. 46. For as I had ever called them my sons, (for they were all of them very young) even so they said unto me: Father, behold our God is with us, and he will not suffer that we should fall; then let us go forth; we would not slay our brethren if they would let us alone; therefore, let us go, lest they should overpower the army of Antipus. 47. Now they never had fought, yet they did not fear death; and they did think more upon the liberty of their fathers than they did upon their lives; yea, they had been taught by their mothers, that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them. 48. And they rehearsed unto me the words of their mothers, saying: we do not doubt our mothers knew it. Review what "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" says about a mother's role. (p ii in Young Women Personal Progress book) With a mother, grandmother, or leader, discuss the qualities a woman needs to teach children to have faith and to base their decisions on gospel truths. How can these principles help you in your life today and help you prepare to be a mother? Record your thoughts in your journal. DIVINE NATURE VALUE EXPERIENCE #2 Increase your understanding of and appreciation for womanhood. Read Proverbs 31:10-31 and two talks on womanhood from a conference issue of the Church magazines. Review what "The Family: A Proclamation to the World: says about being a wife and a mother. Then ask your mother or another mother you admire, what she thinks are important attributes for being a mother. List the attributes in your journal. Then choose one of those attributes and strive to develop it. After two weeks report your success to a parent or Young Women leader. DIVINE NATURE VALUE PROJECT #3 List the roles of women as taught in "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" and carry out a project that helps you learn more about one of those roles. GOOD WORKS VALUE EXPERIENCES #5 Read Doctrine and Covenants 58:26-28. 26. For behold, it is not meet that I should command in all things; for he that is compelled in all things, the same is slothful- and not a wise servant; wherefore, he receiveth no reward. 27. Verily, I say men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness. 28. For the power is in them, wherein they are agents unto themselves. And inasmuch as men do good they will in nowise lose their reward. Think of ways a young woman, as well as a wife and mother, could apply this scripture in her family.
